Knowing and adhering to industry standards and best practices are important in programming with its complex and chaotic mix of programming languages, tools, approaches, and technologies. All professional Java job programmers should be familiar with the Java programming conventions we will be talking about today. A coding convention is a set of guidelines for a specific programming language and recommendations for various aspects of software development in that language, including coding styles, best practices, and methods. It should be followed by all software programmers who program in the language to ensure that their code is readable and that others properly maintain the software. This is the purpose of a coding convention. It includes all the essential components that makeup software in the programming language, including file organization, indentation, comments, explanations, instructions, spaces, naming conventions, programming practices, programming principles, programming rules, architectural best practices, and much more. There are many reasons why programming conventions play such an important role in software development. Following a coding, convention makes it possible to write software projects in a uniform style, which can be beneficial in several ways, such as the following. Improving software readability is a major advantage that has several implications, such as simplifying new developers’ introduction into a project and increasing collaboration between the development team members. Well-written and structured code is necessary for the software development process to run as smoothly as possible. When it comes to Java, the two most common and well-known programming conventions are Oracle's Java Code Convention and Google's Java Style Guide Coding Conventions. The Java Code Convention is recognized as important for many obvious reasons: it is the official convention of Oracle (the owner of Java) and one of the oldest, with the last revision of the document on April 20, 1999. The most important part of Oracle's Java code conventions is the recommendation to use camel letters when defining classes, methods, and variables, to start classes with capital letters, to use noun names for classes, to use verbs in the imperative form, and to use lowercase letters for methods. Here is how the authors of Google's Java Style Guide describe the content of the Google Java Code Convention and how it serves as the full definition of Google Code, the default source code for Java. Google's Java code conventions are considered important because of its status as a learning and Internet tech company with vast experience in developing all kinds of Java applications. Another important reason is that it was updated on May 22, 2018, making it more relevant than the Oracle Code Convention when describing new Java features released in 2014 as part of Java 8, such as lambda streams. Unlike other programming style guides, the topics covered here include aesthetic issues such as formatting and other types of conventions and coding standards. The document is a good reference, but for the most part, somewhat permissive on the subject. It focuses on hard and fast rules that we should follow and avoid and gives advice that humans cannot enforce. On the other hand, as a Java programmer, you can use four spaces for code indentation, among other things, said David Rios, a software architect and experienced Java programmer in a LinkedIn post, and suggested customizing the Java Style Guide of his own.
